Guidelines

Because you will be part of a Japa Mandala (a group practicing japa as part of a large Yagya) you have flexibility in how often you do the japa, and how long you spend each time. If you can do one mala, only once a week - that is fine! You will still enjoy the benefits of the whole Yagya.

In the Vedic tradition, ladies do not do this type of japa during their monthly period. Also, for both men and women, japa should not be performed within 13 days of the birth or death of a blood relative.

Traditionally, you bathe or shower in the morning on the days you plan to recite, and wash your hands, mouth and face immediately prior to recitation. It is also traditional to make a "sankalpa" or resolution of purpose at the outset of your practice that specifies why you are undertaking the mantra japa and for how long you intend to continue. When you register as a participant, we will send you a copy of the text of the original intention that was stated when this yagya started (the Mahasankalpa). You may also include any specific personal resolutions or intentions when you begin.

Prior to each sitting it is traditional, and we recommend that you to make a brief "sankalpa" or resolution of intent in order to tap into the collective power of the Shiva-Shakti Koti Japa Yagya performed by the worldwide japa mandala group.

At the start of each sitting, repeat aloud or silently:
"Dear Divine: Please accept my offering of this japa as part of the Shiva-Shakti Koti Japa Yagya."

You may also include any specific personal resolutions or intentions when you begin.

At the end of each sitting, repeat aloud or silently:
"Please bless me, my family, my country, world and universe with your Divine Grace. Om Shantih Shantih Shantih."
