Durga Puja & Chandi Homa April 6 & 7, 2012
MahaShivaratri was a great success in Fairfield last weekend. We are
grateful to all the volunteers who took the time to prepare the program,
to help throughout the evening and clean up afterward. Pt. Sharma has
set a tradition of coming to Fairfield every year for the past 18 years.
Although he has many requests to perform MahaShivaratri in other
locations, he always comes to Fairfield because of the sincerity and
devotion of people here.
The yagya begins at the first intention to perform it and set a date,
then prepare by making and buying ingredients and setting up the hall.
Throughout the preparation, one has already begun the yagya, and you can
feel it's blessings. The yagya gains momentum during the actual
ceremonies and continues until the clean up is completed. The yagya is
not over until the hall and floors are cleaned, dishes and sheets
cleaned and the fruit and flowers are deposited into the river. The
fruit and flowers that were offered during the yagya, hold the vibration
of the entire yagya. It is really an honor to help in the final parts of
clean up. Again, the blessings begin as soon as action to prepare for
the yagya takes place and continues until the very end.
On April 6 & 7, Pt. Sharma will return to Fairfield to perform the Durga
Puja and Chandi Homa (a beautiful and powerful fire ceremony to the
goddess Durga).
Friday night, April 6 will be a puja to Durga and Saturday morning we
will begin the fire ceremony. Allow about 5-6 hours for the fire
ceremony.
This is a very elaborate ceremony and requires a lot of preparation. If
you are available to help, please let me know.
Here are some areas that we need help:
Making ghee
Shopping for ingredients
Rebuild the fire pit (homa kund)
Set up the altar and prepare the puja ingredients
Someone to take the final offerings to the river
Namaste
Chandi Maa ki Jai!
